Shahid Batalvi Speaks

with apology to Black Elk for he speaks first

Nothingness

A dead pigeon on an evening road
Sometimes death is cheap and dirty
An empty parking lot flooded with rain water
Timelessness of ideas in time of need
Childhood memories, lots of them
Unending chronological maps filled with empty space
I punch holes into the stillness of air
Place letters that are written, atop letters that were never sent
Stories that you told, stories that never were
Thoughts rush past on a train in my brain
Sitting on that last step is easy, jumping off even easier
A lighted candle in a photograph in darkened sunlight
One less dimension on Kodak paper
Eternities have passed into nothingness
